Bayern Munich has started the new season on fire. The defending Bundesliga champions have won all of their three league games in an emphatic manner. The performances of Bayern Munich are convincing as they enter a new era after the departure of Robert Lewandowski.

Julian Nagelsmann has opted for a fluid attack instead of playing a traditional number nine to fill the void left by Lewandowski. The front four of Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala, Thomas Muller, and Sadio Mane caused havoc against Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig (Supercup). The performance against Wolfsburg was also promising, but it didn’t have as many goals as the previous two games.

For the trip away to Bochum last weekend, Nagelsmann had to field a different quartet due to injury problems for Gnabry and Musiala. Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman came into the lineup and helped Die Roten to score seven past Bochum.

Sane delivered a very good performance against Bochum after a promising second-half cameo against Wolfsburg. The German winger also scored the fifth and crucial goal against RB Leipzig in the DFL Supercup at the start of August. Sane has been an impact substitute for Die Roten in the first three games before starting against Bochum.

The former Manchester City winger started the season with appearances from the bench after having a poor second half of the last campaign. According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Sane needs a big season to cement his place at the club. Bayern Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic remains convinced about Sane’s qualities, but the German winger needs to find consistency in his third season.

Earlier this summer, Sane was loosely linked with Manchester United. Salihamidzic and Bayern quickly denied those rumours. However, another disappointing campaign may lead to Die Roten contemplating offers for him next summer. He will have two years left on his contract by the next summer transfer window.

Sane’s numbers have not been a problem at Bayern. He has managed 54 goals and assists in 93 appearances across all competitions. However, the German winger has not managed to sustain good performances throughout the season. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)

Leroy Sane’s inconsistent debut season in Bavaria was understandable since he was returning from a serious injury. He enjoyed a very successful Hinrunde under Julian Nagelsmann last season. A slight tweak in his position made sure Sane was very productive in the final third. However, the German international couldn’t maintain this form during the second half of the season. Bayern will be hoping that this will be a proper season for Sane, and he proves critics wrong by playing a massive role in the team’s success.
