Bayern Munich has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season. Along with winning the DFL Supercup against RB Leipzig, Bayern has also managed to deliver two commanding performances against Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
Despite the departure of Robert Lewandowski, Die Roten remains a dangerous side in the final third. The front four fielded in all three games until now have been a delight to watch, interchanging positions throughout the game and creating havoc in the final third.
Julian Nagelsmann has found a good midfield partnership behind the front four that provides control and stability to the team. Joshua Kimmich has been consistent, as always, in the first three games of the season. The German midfielder has been well complemented by Marcel Sabitzer in the center of the park.
After the injury to Leon Goretzka before the pre-season tour, Sabitzer got the chance to be in the starting XI for the initial few games of the season. He has grabbed this chance with both hands and delivered solid performances. While talking to media (via Kicker) last weekend, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn praised Sabitzer for starting the season strongly after a difficult debut campaign in Bavaria.
"“At Bayern, you’re always very quick to condemn players or write them off after a season,”“I’m actually the best example myself. It took me a season or two here at Bayern Munich, but back then you had more time. Some players, like Sabitzer, have to be given a period of adjustment. Marcel is performing solidly at the moment, we can only congratulate him.”"
Marcel Sabitzer arrived in Bavaria during the final week of last year’s summer transfer window. He was expected to hit the ground running since he had already worked with Julian Nagelsmann. However, things didn’t go as per the plan for the Austrian midfielder.
The former RB Leipzig midfielder struggled for consistent playing time. He also couldn’t show his strengths whenever he was coming on the pitch. The poor performances and lack of playing time led to speculation about his future by the end of the season. Arsenal and Atletico Madrid were reportedly interested in signing Marcel Sabitzer from Die Roten.
Sabitzer’s agents held talks with Die Roten at the end of the season and ruled out a move away from Bavaria. The Austrian midfielder was also determined to silence critics with good performances during his second season at the club. Julian Nagelsmann admitted that Sabitzer was one of the best performers in pre-season training and friendly games.

The Austrian midfielder managed to build momentum in his performances during pre-season, which eventually helped him to start the season strongly. He has been very secure on the ball. Sabitzer is tenacious in the midfield that allowing Die Roten to win most of the duels and suffocating the opposition in the final third. The Bavarian faithful will be hoping that Sabitzer maintains consistency in his performances and play a big part in meeting the team’s objectives for the season.
