Record-breaking goal in the Bundesliga

Robert Lewandowski has broken several records during his time at Bayern. However, the best of the lot was breaking Gerd Muller’s record for most goals in a single season of the Bundesliga. The Polish striker managed to score 41 goals during the 2020/21 campaign.

Muller’s record of 40 goals stood for 49 goals in the Bundesliga. It was always going to take a special effort to break this record. Lewandowski also managed to achieve this feat in the most dramatic manner. The Poland international found the back of the net in the final minute of the last league game of the season. He showed great striker’s instinct as usual to score the goal that clinched the record.

It is a very special record since Lewandowski didn’t play the usual 34 league games. The Poland international scored 41 goals in 29 league games. He missed a few games in March, which eventually proved to be fatal for the club’s hopes of retaining the Champions League title.

Lewandowski’s record is unlikely to be broken anytime soon. This particular record summed up his tenure at Bayern. The Polish striker was relentless throughout the game against Augsburg as he did for the entire season. The wild celebrations with his teammates after scoring this goal will always be itched in every Bayern fan’s mind.
