The midfield department at Bayern Munich is set to be bolstered in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Bavarian club is already negotiating with Ajax to sign Ryan Gravernberch. The young Dutch midfielder is keen on moving to Bavaria. Along with Gravenberch, Rekordmeister could move for another midfielder.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern is eager to sign Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig. The Italian journalist also reports that the German club is preparing an opening bid worth €20 million for the Austrian midfielder. The Bavarian club will be facing competition from several top English clubs for the signing of Laimer.

Leipzig will not be able to demand a significant fee for Laimer since his current deal is set to expire in 2023. They risk losing him for nothing if a transfer is not sorted in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Austrian midfielder has worked with Julian Nagelsmann during his time at Leipzig. He can operate as a number six and central midfielder. Laimer is likely to join Die Roten and deputise Joshua Kimmich in the number six role. It remains to be seen if the 24-year-old midfielder is content with a squad role or looks for a club where he will start every weekend.

Die Roten will have to part ways with two midfielders to make space for Laimer and Gravenberch. The German champions remain undecided over the future of Corentin Tolisso. As things stand, the French midfielder is expected to leave next month on a free transfer.

Apart from Tolisso, Marc Roca is also likely to leave Bavaria in the summer. Julian Nagelsmann is not averse to keeping the Spanish midfielder, but he will struggle to get an adequate amount of playing time at Die Roten. Moreover, there are also doubts over the future of Marcel Sabitzer. If these three players end up leaving, then a move for Laimer and Gravenberch in the summer will make sense.

From Laimer’s point of view, he will be much better served with a move elsewhere. He will get much more playing time if he moves to one of the top English clubs. The Austrian will have a lot of suitors after a good season at Leipzig, and his contract situation also makes him an attractive situation.

Leipzig will be desperate to sell Laimer outside Bundesliga. They have sold two players and one head coach to Bayern in the last 12 months. Losing another quality player to Die Roten will be annoying for Leipzig, so they will be hoping for a bigger bid from other European clubs. Bayern will be hoping to convince the player before opening negotiations with Leipzig. This transfer saga is one to watch in Germany this summer.
