The next few months are crucial for Bayern Munich when it comes to long-term squad building. The Bavarian club is looking to secure the future of key players in the squad. After Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, Kingsley Coman signed a new deal this month. It was a massive coup for the club as he was expected to leave in the summer.

Die Roten is largely looking to extend contracts of players that are having 18 months on their current deal. However, there are a couple of unique situations in the squad where players have only five months on this contract. Corentin Tolisso is one of those two players that could be moving away from Bavaria on a free transfer in June.

Tolisso is reportedly open to staying in Bavaria. A similar stance is developing from the club’s side. According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Die Roten is having a change of heart about Tolisso and the club is now ready to open talks for extension with the midfielder.

Corentin Tolisso has been playing well under Julian Nagelsmann this season. He returned to action last weekend with a superb goal after a brief spell on the sidelines. The French international provides solid cover to Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in the center of the park. Julian Nagelsmann has nothing but words of praise for Tolisso and the qualities he brings to the table.

The only concern about handing Tolisso a new deal is his persistent injury problems. There is no doubt about his qualities. He is a very commendable versatile all-action midfielder, but muscle injuries have consistently troubled him in the past couple of seasons. His career at Rekordmeister would have been much better if he hadn’t suffered the knee ligament injury in 2018.

Courtesy of his injury problems, Die Roten was ready to allow him to run down his deal and leave Bavarian on a free transfer. He has been linked with numerous clubs in the past 12 months with few reports suggesting that he will be open to leaving in the current winter window.

If Bayern manages to reach an agreement regarding a new deal, then there will be a significant change in the club’s transfer plans for the summer. The midfield department was expected to witness a new arrival, but Tolisso’s renewal will make sure that there were enough options for next season.

Apart from Tolisso, Niklas Sule is the other senior player that has only five months left on his contract. The German club remains in talks with Sule for a new deal, but there has been no breakthrough yet. If Sule and Tolisso commit their future to Die Roten, then there will be very less big transfers in the summer.
