The winter transfer window has seen Bayern Munich working on securing the long-term future of key players in the squad. They have successfully negotiated a new five-year deal with Kingsley Coman. This deal was a big coup for Rekordmeister since Coman was expected to leave in the summer after reaching an impasse in contract talks last year.

Another certain departure at Bayern is Corentin Tolisso. The French midfielder has six months left on his current deal, and there has been no suggestion of him getting a new deal until now. However, the recent reports in the German media do hint that there is still a twist left in Tolisso’s future at Die Roten.

According to TZ, Corentin Tolisso is open to extending his contract at Bayern. This is a significant development as it was previously reported by German media that Tolisso wants to get a move during the winter transfer window.

Meanwhile, there could be a change in Die Roten’s stance regarding Tolisso’s future. According to Kicker, Rekordmeister has not ruled out extending the French midfielder’s contract. They are yet to open talks with Tolisso, but they are keeping a close eye on his situation.

Julian Nagelsmann spoke glowingly about Tolisso after the win against FC Koln last weekend. The German coach admires the qualities of Tolisso as he scored his first Bundesliga goal in a year against Koln.

Tolisso has been very unfortunate with injuries in the past three seasons. After enjoying a very good debut season in 2017/18, the French international suffered a serious knee ligament injury at the start of the 2018/19 season, keeping him out of action for ten months. Since the big setback in 2018, Tolisso has consistently missed games due to various other injuries.

The French international’s performances remained satisfactory, but he has not been available for an entire campaign since 2018. His persistent injury problems made sure that Rekordmeister didn’t open talks with him for a contract renewal. Tolisso has been heavily linked with various clubs in the last 18 months.

It will be a big gamble for Rekordmeister if they decide to extend Tolisso’s contract. He has already missed few games this season due to muscle injuries. The Bavarian club should look to get a younger midfield on board in the summer that can be relied on to play an entire season. Moreover, Tolisso should also try to get a move to get consistent playing time ahead of the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Parting ways in the summer would be beneficial for all parties involved instead of a contract renewal.
