Minor changes in the back four for Bayern

Manuel Neuer will be irritated after missing out on a clean sheet against Bayer Leverkusen. The German goalkeeper will be looking to make it a hat-trick of clean sheets in the Champions League this season after keeping Barcelona and Dynamo Kyiv quiet in the first two group games.

Nagelsmann has been consistently making changes in the central defense over the past few weeks. Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Sule had a good game against Leverkusen, so the German manager could stick with them against Benfica. Dayot Upamecano will start on the bench in Lisbon.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Pavard will return to the starting lineup. The French defender didn’t feature against Leverkusen due to suspension. Pavard has not been exactly at his best in the past few weeks, so the game against Benfica is crucial for him to get back in form.

Alphonso Davies was substituted late in the first half against Bayer Leverkusen due to a minor injury. Nagelsmann preferred Josip Stanisic over Omar Richards to play in the left-back position when Davies was injured against Leverkusen. The Croatian has established himself as a backup option on either side of the defense, so he should be in contention to start against Benfica.
