The summer transfer window highlighted the poor financial situation of Barcelona. The Spanish club didn’t have the money to renew the contract of Lionel Messi, so the forward eventually joined Paris Saint-Germain after spending close to two decades in Spain. The financial situation is not completely at Barcelona yet, which opens the window for other clubs such as Bayern Munich to capitalize.

According to Sport, Bayern is closely monitoring the situation of Barcelona as they are ready to move for long-term targets that are currently playing for the Spanish club. This report also insists that Rekordmeister has already told players from Barcelona in talks that they will be open to negotiating with the Catalan club if they want to experience a new adventure.

The possible transfer targets for Rekordmeister from current Barcelona could be Frenkie De Jong, Pedri, and Sergino Dest. Ansu Fati is an exciting young talent, but it is very difficult to see the Catalan club allowing him to leave anytime soon.

De Jong and Pedri will add more quality in the central midfield. Before joining Barcelona, De Jong was also linked with a move to Bavaria. Meanwhile, Bayern had reportedly made a couple of offers to sign Pedri at various points in the last two years.  There is definitely space in the squad for one of these two midfielders as Rekordmeister is looking to add quality in central midfield.

Regarding Dest, it is not a secret that Rekordmeister wanted to sign him in 2020. The US international had also confirmed interest from the German Champions. However, Barcelona moved quickly to sign him from Ajax, and Die Roten had to settle for Bouna Sarr.

Rekordmeister had reportedly tried to sign Dest again in summer since they were ready to part ways with Sarr. The French defender has struggled to get consistent playing time. Josip Stanisic has provided a good cover for Benjamin Pavard. However, Pavard does want to play in central defense in the long run, so Die Roten may have to sign a right-back. Dest’s quality has been on display at Barcelona, which justifies persistent interest from the Bavarian club.

Die Roten will be in a much better financial position to capitalize on Barcelona’s financial struggles. The German club reported close to €150 million in losses during the last 18 months due to the pandemic. However, the return of fans at Allianz Arena will give Bayern a much-needed financial boost.

Moreover, there will be space in the squad as few fringe players are likely to be moved on next summer. It might sound cruel for Barcelona that Die Roten and other top clubs are hovering over top talents in their squad, but similar instances have happened to every club that has struggled financially in the past.
