At the end of the last season, it was evident that Bayern Munich was eager to bolster the midfield options during the summer transfer window. The departure of Javi Martinez and injury concerns of Corentin Tolisso meant that signing a new midfielder was one of the priorities in the summer.

Throughout the summer transfer window, the Bavarian club was linked with numerous midfielders. Eduardo Camavinga and Florian Neuhaus were some of the young midfielders that were subject to interest from Die Roten, but these players were expensive for the club. The French midfielder from Rennes eventually moved to Real Madrid before deadline day.

The defending Bundesliga champions managed to address this position eventually at the end of the transfer window. Die Roten reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the transfer of Marcel Sabitzer. The Austrian midfielder arrived in Bavaria for a transfer fee of 15 million since he had entered the final year of contract at Leipzig.

Apart from Sabitzer, Rekordmeister also explored the signing of Sabitzer’s teammate at RB Leipzig- Konrad Laimer. While talking to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff confirmed that Die Roten touched base with Laimer’s representatives during summer.

More from Bayern Strikes

The Austrian midfielder will have only one year left on his contract next summer, so it will be interesting to see if Die Roten approach Leipzig for transfer. Laimer can operate as a central and defensive midfielder. The Austrian will definitely add more quality depth in the midfield department if the transfer takes place in the future.

Since Neuhaus has stayed at Gladbach this summer, he is also likely to be on the radar of Die Roten next summer. There could be a significant overhaul in the midfield department next summer despite the arrival of Sabitzer.

Tolisso is expected to leave on a free transfer next summer, with Inter Milan reportedly interested in his signature. Marc Roca’s future at the club will also depend on how things go for him on the pitch this season. The Spaniard is back in full training after suffering an injury setback before pre-season. Mickael Cuisance couldn’t get a transfer away from Bavaria in the summer, so it is the last chance saloon for the French midfielder at Die Roten.

Along with Sabitzer, Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich are long-term midfield options for Die Roten. Depending on Roca’s performances, Die Roten will have to make a decision regarding a new midfielder next season. It could well be a toss-up between Laimer and Neuhaus.
