The last 24 hours have seen more speculation surrounding the future of Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich. The Polish striker wants to experience a new challenge, but a move this summer is unlikely. Considering the quality of performances from Lewandowski in the last couple of campaigns, the doubts over his future at the club might seem surprising.
However, the future of Lewandowski involves many layers, which makes this situation complex. According to Bild, the Polish striker is still waiting for an offer from the German club. He is also frustrated by the talk surrounding the club potentially moving for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.
Earlier this month, Hasan Salihamidzic openly spoke about Haaland. The chiefs at Die Roten have consistently ruled out a move for the Norwegian striker this summer. However, Salihamidzic refused to rule out a potential move for Haaland next summer when his release clause at Dortmund will be active.
Bayern are right to start planning for future
Lewandowski has been a tremendous player for Die Roten since arriving at the club in 2014. However, the German Champions will have to start preparing for finding a successor for him since he turns 34 next season. With Haaland on the market, it will be naïve from the club’s point of view to not test waters to explore the transfer.

Moreover, Lewandowski is one of the best-paid players at the club, so there is likely to be a lot of thinking done by club chiefs before committing to another long-term deal for the Polish striker. Die Roten has made few tough decisions in the last 12 months regarding contract renewal, so it will not be surprising to see them take a similar stance with Lewandowski.
From Lewandowski’s point of view, the next contract will be the last big deal in his career. Considering his fitness record over the past five seasons, there will be no lack of suitors for him next summer. It is going to be a game of chess between Pini Zahavi, Lewandowski’s agent, and Bayern during the next 12 months.
The Bavarian faithful will obviously want Lewandowski to end his career in Bavaria. However, the German Champions have to take the financial aspect of the new deal or possible transfer into consideration before making a final decision next summer.
For now, the fans can enjoy another season of Lewandowski scoring a truckload of goals as he has already notched up three goals in two competitive games. After missing out crucial knockout game against PSG last season, Lewandowski will be eyeing to play a decisive role in Champions League this season and bring the trophy back to Allianz Arena.
