Bayern Munich will be in contention for Erling Haaland next summer
Before the start of the summer transfer window, Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland was attracting a lot of interest from top clubs across Europe. Bayern Munich had consistently insisted that they will not be making a move for the Norwegian striker.
As the summer has progressed, Chelsea showed the strongest interest in Haaland. The Champions League winners wanted to sign the young striker, but Dortmund was in no mood to lose another star after sanctioning the transfer of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.
Dortmund’s stance eventually forced Chelsea to look somewhere else as they are closing on the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan. The Norwegian striker is expected to stay in the Bundesliga next season before taking the next step in his career during the summer transfer window in 2022.
Since Haaland will be much cheaper next summer due to the release clause worth €75 million, there will be a lot of competition for his signature. While speaking to Sport1 this week, Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed Bayern’s interest in the 21-year-old prolific striker.
"“This is a top player that probably the whole world wants. Of course, we are looking there. Otherwise, we would be complete amateurs.”"

Earlier this summer, one German report suggested that Die Roten is already thinking about a successor for Robert Lewandowski. Haaland will be the ideal striker to take over the mantle from Lewandowski at Die Roten.
The Norwegian striker has enjoyed a prolific career until now. An impressive goal-scoring record at Red Bull Salzburg earned him a move to Borussia Dortmund in 2020. He managed to maintain this goalscoring touch in the Bundesliga while enjoying a remarkable output in the Champions League for Dortmund. The Norway international has started the new season in the best possible way as he scored a hat-trick in Dortmund’s first round of DFB Pokal against Wehen Wiesbaden this weekend.
Haaland will be a terrific signing for Die Roten. However, the Norwegian striker is unlikely to be a long-term solution. He may eventually look for another move after four-five seasons. Die Roten may also find it tricky dealing with Haaland’s representative- Mino Raiola, who is known for being a tricky agent to deal with clubs.
From a financial point of view, Rekordmeister will be better placed to sign Haaland next summer. Fans are expected to be back at Allianz Arena next season, which will eventually boost the overall revenue of the club. The German Champions will face competitions from clubs, such as Manchester United, Manchester City, and Real Madrid. Salihamidzic will have the responsibility of convincing Haaland regarding the project in Bavaria.
