The last few days have witnessed growing speculation surrounding the future of Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich. The Polish striker has been linked with a move away from Bavaria, with a Spanish report suggesting that Real Madrid remains his dream destination. However, the German media has an entirely different angle on the striker’s situation.
According to Bild, Pini Zahavi is set to hold talks with Die Roten regarding a new contract for Lewandowski in the coming days. The Polish striker currently has two years left on his present deal. Considering Lewandowski’s performances over the last couple of years, he has a strong case for demanding a renewal.
The constant speculation surrounding Lewandowski could be a way of putting pressure on Die Roten regarding a new deal. Nevertheless, one thing is certain that Lewandowski will not be going anywhere this summer. Julian Nagelsmann has also insisted that the Polish striker is going to stay at the club.
From a financial point of view, Real Madrid will not afford a deal to sign the Polish striker this summer. Meanwhile, Premier League clubs will also think twice before forking out a nine-figure fee for Lewandowski. Even though the Poland international is the best number nine in the world, he is currently not a long-term option as he will turn 33 next season.

Lewandowski had previously agitated for a move away from the club in 2018. However, the German Champions didn’t entertain offers for him and he ended up staying in Bavaria. The Polish striker got more support from the club hierarchy in the media, while his performances also kept on improving.
At the start of the 2019/20 campaign, Lewandowski brought an end to the speculation by signing a new deal. In the past two seasons, he has been scoring goals for fun. He managed to break Gerd Muller’s record in the Bundesliga and also won the Champions League trophy. The Polish striker could see himself retiring at the club.
However, the Poland international also has to make sure that he gets rewarded for his work adequately. Zahavi is known for getting the best deal for his players, so the speculation around Lewandowski’s future will be leveraged by him for a new contract.
Nevertheless, Die Roten should be looking to hand him a contract renewal. In an ideal scenario, his deal is extended until 2024 with a raise in wages. The German Champions should also start looking for a younger striker that can eventually succeed Lewandowski at the club.
