In the past few days, Bayern Munich has been linked with numerous wingers as the club’s stance is clear about the future of Douglas Costa. The Brazilian winger will be returning to Juventus after a disappointing loan spell in Bavaria.

Some of the links in this position have been with young forwards, while the biggest and most concrete report has been about Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez. The Spanish media has suggested that negotiations between Vazquez and Die Roten are at an advanced stage.

After the emergence of reports in Spain about Vazquez, Bild had reported that the Spain international is not on Rekordmeister radar. However, Sky Sports in Germany insisted this week that Bayern has been in contact with Vazquez’s agent. The Spanish winger will be available on a free transfer in the summer as his contract at Real Madrid ends in June.

The report from Sky Sports does provide more insight on this possible transfer. It insists that wages could be the biggest stumbling block for this move to go ahead. Vazquez currently earns €5.5 million per year, which is considerably high for a player that will be signed to add depth in the squad in Munich.

More from Bayern Strikes

One thing does look certain that there is a good possibility of this transfer happening in summer. It would be a shrewd bit of business for Die Roten since Vazquez can add quality in numerous positions. Moreover, he also brings a lot of experience to the squad after winning four Champions League titles with Real Madrid in the last decade.

Vazquez would act as the fourth winger in the squad. Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Coman are the present and future of Die Roten, so adding an experienced option to complement these young wingers is the right idea. He will help in keeping these young players on their toes by maintaining strong competition in this position.

Along with serving the role of a wide player in the squad, Vazquez also provides backup in the right-back position. The Spanish international has been deployed in this position by Real Madrid during the last couple of seasons. Considering the poor form of Bouna Sarr, Vazquez can provide strong cover for Benjamin Pavard.

Despite so many positive aspects of this transfer, Rekordmeister is unlikely to harm their wage structure by accepting Vazquez’s demand. The German club has been careful with the wage structure at the club as they decided against meeting the wage demands of David Alaba. It will take Vazquez to lower his wages for this transfer to materialise in the summer.
