The summer transfer plans have already been implemented at Bayern Munich. They have already sealed a deal for Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig, while Omar Richards will reportedly arrive from Reading FC on a free transfer. After these two deals, Die Roten will have to be creative in the market due to the financial strain caused due to the pandemic.

Creative deals could be a loan, swap deals or free transfers. Late on Tuesday, Spanish outlet AS reported that Die Roten has opened negotiations with Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez. The Spain international is free to negotiate with clubs since his contract in Madrid comes to an end in the summer. Die Roten has been linked with the Spaniard in the past.

While Vazquez is not exactly a star name, but his utility could very well serve Die Roten’s needs next season. Most importantly, there will not be a huge outlay in this transfer. If Rekordmeister manages to sign him on a two-year deal, then it would be a massive coup.

Vazquez has been primarily playing on the flanks for Real Madrid. However, he can also be deployed as a wing-back or right-back. All three positions will need addressing next summer at Die Roten, so this report could have some substance in it.

More from Bayern Strikes

In the wide positions, Bayern has three insanely talented wingers in Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane, and Kingsley Coman. Jamal Musiala can also operate in this position, but he is better suited in central areas. Since Douglas Costa is going back to Juventus in the summer window, Vazquez can fill the position of the fourth wide player in the squad.

Meanwhile, the right-back position has been a bit problematic for Hansi Flick this season. Benjamin Pavard is finally picking up form in the last few weeks, but last summer’s signing Bouna Sarr has failed to provide quality cover in this position. Vazquez is not right-back by trade, but he can provide cover in this role if needed.

Vazquez doesn’t have enough productivity in the final third, but his role would be just to provide ample cover in the squad. Even if he managed to chip in with ten goals contributions across all competitions, then it would be a very good output.

In terms of experience, Vazquez has tons of it after being part of Real Madrid squad that won three Champions League titles in a row. The Spanish winger ticks most of the boxes for a utility player, so signing him in the summer on decent wages and a two-year-long contract would be a shrewd move from Die Roten.
