The midfield department was reportedly the area Bayern Munich wants to improve in the upcoming summer transfer window. In the last 24 hours, Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has been the name suggested as a transfer target to improve Die Roten’s midfield department.

According to AS, Saul wants to leave Atletico Madrid, and Die Roten has put in an offer for the Spaniard. Saul currently has a release clause worth €150 million in his long contract at Atletico Madrid, but AS reports that the Spanish club will be ready to part ways with the midfielder for a fee between €35-50 million.

SportBild’s Christian Falk has quickly denied this development, while Sport1 also confirmed that Rekordmeister has not made an offer for the Spain international. Saul has been an important player for Atletico Madrid for multiple seasons, but he has struggled to get consistent playing time this season.

Sport1 insisted that Bayern needs to sell players before making an acquisition like Saul during the summer transfer window. Die Roten has already committed a big transfer fee to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig, while Omar Richards will arrive from Reading on a free transfer.

More from Bayern Strikes

The German Champions were reportedly ready to listen to offers for Corentin Tolisso in the summer. Those plans are now certainly on the backburner after Tolisso suffered a serious injury in February. He will reportedly face six months on the sidelines due to injury, which could potentially rule out a summer move.

In such a scenario, Rekordmeister will have to hope that other players help in raising cash for the midfielder. Mickael Cuisance has scored two goals in the last two appearances for Marseille under new manager Jorge Sampaoli. If he continues to thrive under the Argentine manager, then Die Roten could end up seeing him join the French club permanently for a reported fee of €18 million.

They will also need Parma and PSV Eindhoven to take up options to buy Joshua Zirkzee and Adrian Fein, respectively. Transfer fees for these three players can help in boosting the transfer budget of Die Roten in the summer. If and it is a big IF these three deals happen, then a move for Saul Niguez couldn’t be discounted.

The Spaniard will provide more bite to the midfield and help the team to be less reliant on the midfield pivot of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. Moreover, Saul has a good record of delivering big performances against the best opposition in Europe. Having such kind of profile in the midfield will surely benefit Die Roten in the medium to long term.
