Apart from Leroy Sane, summer signings have not turned out to be outright successful for Bayern Munich. The signing of Tanguy Kouassi from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer was one of the shrewd moves for Rekordmeister, but it has been a nightmare debut season for the young defender.

Injuries have been creating problems for Kouassi throughout his debut season in Bavaria. The latest update on his muscle injury is not promising at all. Bild revealed on Friday that there had been a setback for the defender in his rehabilitation process from serious muscle injury.

Kouassi had been training with the ball at the end of January. He was expected to join his teammates in training. However, he has taken few steps back in his recovery. The German media outlet reported that Kouassi had a break of two weeks from training. The French defender is now back on the pitch for light training.

The best possible scenario for Kouassi will be that he is back to complete fitness after the international break. It will help him to get few games under his belt before the end of the season if he starts training with the team at the start of April.

More from Bayern Strikes

Kouassi is a player for the future at Die Roten. He is going to get better with every passing year after enjoying a good breakthrough 2019/20 season at PSG. Rekordmeister will be reaping the rewards of beating competition from top clubs for his signature in the next decade.

The injury to Kouassi has not punctured Die Roten’s season due to incredible depth in central defense. Jerome Boateng and David Alaba have been a mainstay in the heart of the defense, while Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez have been quality backup options for this position. Javi Martinez and Benjamin Pavard can also operate in the heart of the defense.

Kouassi needs to focus on being completely fit for the start of next season. Alaba is certainly leaving in summer, while recent reports suggest that Boateng is also on his way out of the club in summer. These two departures will open up more opportunities despite the imminent arrival of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig in the summer.

The former PSG defender can also provide cover in the defensive midfield position. Corentin Tolisso’s injury has made it difficult for Die Roten to bolster midfield options in the summer, so Kouassi could get good opportunities in the center of the park. It has been an unfortunate start for Kouassi in Bavaria, but better things lie ahead for him in Munich.
