Bayern Munich: Top three performers from 5-1 victory over FC Koln
By Daniel Garza
Bayern Munich followed up their massive 4-1 victory over Lazio with another fine showing on Saturday. Die Roten scored five goals to defeat FC Koln at the Allianz Arena. It was an offensive showcase of skill and finishing ability that resulted in a massive three points in the title race. Here are the top three performers from the victory.
Leon Goretzka
The Bayern midfield recorded three assists in the victory. He was a constant threat in Koln’s half of the pitch as he not only delivered pinpoint passes but also unleashed a few shots. His first assist was a well-placed cross that found Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting who headed the ball into the back of the net.
The second assist was arguably his best out of the three as he made a nice move to get around a defender and then played the ball into the path of Robert Lewandowski. Gortezka’s final assist was a pinpoint cross that provided Serge Gnabry with a simple finish.
Since returning from his absence, due to testing positive for the Coronavirus, Goretzka has been performing very well. Earlier this week he registered an assist in the victory over Lazio. There’s no question Bayern benefit from having Goretzka back in the lineup and this match showed the impact he can have when he’s at his best.

Robert Lewandowski
Lewandowski added two more goals to his season total. The striker scored in the first and second half to help guide Bayern to all three points at home. This was his first multi-goal performance in the Bundesliga since Matchday 14 when he scored two goals in the victory over Mainz.
Just 13 goals now separate Lewandowski from making history in the Bundesliga as he inches closer to Gerd Muller’s record of 40 goals in a single season. This performance certainly helps his chances of setting the record as he needs just a few more multi-goal matches to reach 41 goals.
Serge Gnabry
In his first Bundesliga appearance since Matchday 20, Gnabry provided an instant impact after entering the match as a second-half substitute. The winger scored two goals to ensure the victory was secure in the latter stages of the match.
It was an encouraging performance from a player who had been dealing with a thigh injury sustained in the FIFA Club World Cup. Goals haven’t come as easy for Gnabry this season but he can still finish the campaign strong with more performances such as this one.
