Bayern Munich returned to Germany victorious after defeating Lazio in the opening leg of the Round of 16 matchup. The 4-1 victory puts Die Roten in the driver’s seat as they find themselves in a great position to advance to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. Here are the player ratings from the big win on Tuesday.

Manager Rating

Hansi Flick-9/10

It was a great response from Bayern after their 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend in the Bundesliga. Flick had the squad prepared to perform at a high level right from the opening whistle as Bayern put pressure on the hosts. One of his changes from the weekend lineup ended up being a great decision. He put Jamal Musiala into the starting 11 and the 17-year-old scored Bayern’s second goal of the match. Flick deserves plenty of praise for the outcome of the opening leg as it sets the club up perfectly for the reverse fixture.

Player Ratings

GK, Manuel Neuer-8/10

The Bayern goalkeeper finished with four saves on five shots faced. Shortly after Lazio had scored, he denied a shot from Joaquin Correa in the 53rd-minute which was arguably his best save of the match.

CB, David Alaba-7/10

Alaba led the way in clearances as the center back recorded a total of five. He also had a key blocked shot in the 39th minute when Lazio had a high-quality opportunity to score. His two free-kick attempts did not find the back of the net but his effort in the 66th minute wasn’t far off.

CB, Jerome Boateng-7/10

It was a strong performance from the center back. Boateng registered four interceptions, three clearances, two tackles, and two blocked shots. He was rarely wasteful in possession as he finished with the highest pass completion percentage of Bayern’s starting 11.

LB, Alphonso Davies-7/10

Davies led the way for Bayern in tackles as the left-back registered four tackles in the victory. He also was one of the top performers when it came to recoveries with Davies recording a total of seven. Offensively, the Canadian left-back helped set up Musiala’s goal as he dribbled past a defender before passing it to Leon Goretzka who provided the assist on the goal.

RB, Niklas Sule-8/10

Sule performed very well in the right-back role as Benjamin Pavard remains out after testing positive for the Coronavirus. He was not afraid to get forward in this match as he registered the second most dribbles on the team. Only Leroy Sane registered more dribbles than Sule. When it came to defensive actions, Sule recorded four clearances, two tackles, and two interceptions.
