Bayern Munich is always interested in signing world-class talent. Likewise, players from Bayern are also subject to interest from other top European clubs. Thomas Tuchel tried to sign Jerome Boateng for Paris Saint-Germain last summer. He is again interested in few defenders from Bavaria, but this time he is working at Chelsea.

According to SportBild, Tuchel wants Chelsea to explore a deal for Niklas Sule in the summer. Sule will have only one year left on his contract after this season. There have been mixed reports in Germany regarding Bayern’s motives about extending his deal.

The German international is not the only Bayern defender liked by Tuchel. The former Borussia Dortmund manager also retains an interest in David Alaba. The Austrian defender will become a free agent in the summer, so Chelsea has to negotiate with Pini Zahavi rather than Die Roten.

This report also insists that the London based club is also in the race for Bayern target Dayot Upamecano. The French defender has emerged as the primary transfer target for European Champions in the summer. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also hinted that Chelsea and Liverpool would be the competitors for the signing of Upamecano.

More from Bayern Strikes

Chelsea is not going to sign so many defenders in one summer. They are most likely to get one of these three players to improve the squad for next season. Die Roten will be hoping that Alaba is the player they eventually get rather than Sule and Upamecano. The German club failed to agree to terms for a new deal with Alaba after multiple rounds of talks between two parties.

SportBild also squashed reports suggesting that Alaba is close to agreeing to a move to Real Madrid. This media outlet insists that Alaba’s entourage is also open to listening to English clubs. There was a lot of noise in European media during January that the Austrian defender would be moving to the Spanish capital in the summer.

There were reports in Germany suggesting that Die Roten has doubts over the fitness of Sule. He has also been linked with Manchester United, but few reports do suggest that the German club wants to extend his contract along with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.

Considering how much the market for central defenders has inflated in the past few years, missing out on a talented young defender such as Upamecano at a reasonable fee (€42.5 million release clause) would be a big blow for Die Roten. The French defender is likely to be the last piece of the defensive puzzle at Bayern. Since Bayern is putting so much effort into Upamecano’s transfer already, there is a good chance that they will end up beating other competitors for his signature.
