The top three performers from Bayern Munich’s victory over Borussia Dortmund.

A massive victory over Borussia Dortmund away from home allows Bayern Munich to claim the top spot in the Bundesliga entering the November international break. For the second time, this season Die Roten defeated their rivals by a final score of 3-2. In September, Bayern edged Dortmund by the same scoreline in the DFL Supercup.

There were three different goal scorers from Bayern as the match proved to be a back-and-forth encounter. Dortmund had taken the lead late in the first half but Bayern delivered an equalizer in the first time half stoppage time from David Alaba.

Bayern went on to take the lead through Robert Lewandowski in the 48th minute. Leroy Sane produced a much-needed insurance goal later in the second half which proved to be decisive, as Dortmund moved within one in the 83rd minute with an Erling Braut-Haaland goal.

Here are the top three performers from another edition of Der Klassiker.

Robert Lewandowski

Bayern’s striker was instrumental in helping his club earn all three points against Dortmund. It could have been more than just one goal scored for Lewandowski but two close offside calls ruled out two goals. He’s now scored seven goals against Dortmund in his last five Bundesliga appearances against his former club.

Lewandowski not only scored but also registered a key assist. He recorded the match-winning assist on Sane’s strike that proved to be the difference in this fixture. This moved up his Bundesliga assist total to four. So far, he has 11 goals and four assists in six Bundesliga appearances.

More from Bayern Strikes

Leroy Sane

Sane turned out to be the super substitute in this edition of Der Klassiker. The German winger scored the match-winner and made an impact after entering in the 68th minute. It was Sane’s second goal of the week as he came on against RB Salzburg on Tuesday to score an important goal.

Bayern’s summer signing now has two goals and two assists in four Bundesliga appearances so far this season. He continues to prove the club made the right decision bringing him to the club.

Lucas Hernandez

Bayern’s left-back followed up his great performance against Red Bull Salzburg with another fine showing. Hernandez delivered an assist on Lewandowski’s goal by providing a fantastic cross. The Frenchman nearly set up a goal in the first minute of the match as well with another great cross into the penalty area. Defensively, Hernandez was one of the leaders for Bayern. He recorded three tackles, two interceptions, and three clearances. Hernandez continues to impress at left-back.
