FC Bayern Munich is set to improve the attacking options by signing Douglas Costa.

It is going to be a busy day for FC Bayern Munich, as they could confirm up to four new arrivals. Hansi Flick has been demanding additions to the squad for a congested campaign. The German manager wanted to add a winger in the attacking department this summer. Die Roten has obliged.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich is set to sign Douglas Costa on a one-year loan deal on the deadline day. The Brazilian returns to Bavaria after a brief spell of two years from 2015 till 2017. This deal will not have an option to sign Costa permanently.

Die Roten were interested in signing Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea. However, the English club had rejected the loan offer for the young winger. Moreover, Hudson-Odoi was not agitating for a move away from London as he did in 2019, so a move to Bavaria was unlikely with little time left in the window, and the club has decided to sign Costa from Juventus.

Costa enjoyed a great debut campaign in Bavaria under Pep Guardiola, but he couldn’t maintain those levels of performances under Carlo Ancelotti. The Brazilian shone at Juventus initially, but last season was a nightmare for him due to injury problems.

More from Bayern Strikes

The arrival of Costa sounds a desperate move from Die Roten. The German Champions took a long time to focus on getting further arrivals after starting the summer transfer window with a bang in July. At this moment, fatigue is seeping into the squad, so it is necessary that Flick has options in the squad to rotate the starting XI.

Costa is not prolific in terms of scoring goals as he managed to score only ten goals in the last three seasons. The Brazilian does provide unpredictability in the final third with his dribbling and pace. Costa can provide natural width higher up the pitch by isolating the full-back on the flank. It is a dry loan, so Costa’s arrival will not have major implications on Rekordmeister’s long term plans. The German Champions will be looking at a younger wide player next summer. For now, Costa will provide depth in an important position.

dark. Next. Robert Lewandowski delivers another masterclass

Apart from Costa, Die Roten is likely to complete deals for Marc Roca, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and Bouna Sarr before the end of the transfer window. Roca and Sarr will be signing long term deals, while Choupo-Moting will be short term deal to provide back up for Robert Lewandowski.
