FC Bayern Munich is looking to sign Choupo-Moting on a free transfer.

In the final two days of the transfer window, FC Bayern Munich is looking to get three deals over the line. The club is close to signing Marc Roca from Espanyol, but right-back and forward also remain priority positions before the deadline day.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has been the primary target in the attacking department, but it will take a miraculous effort to sign the English forward from Chelsea. Die Roten has turned their attention to other options in the market.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has emerged as a transfer target for the German Champions. According to Telefoot Chaine in France and Sport1 in Germany, Choupo-Moting is close to agreeing a two year deal with FC Bayern Munich. The 31-year-old forward has been a free agent since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in August.

Choupo-Moting will act as the backup striker for Robert Lewandowski. The Cameroon international can also play on flanks, so he will provide flexibility to Hansi Flick in the front three. He is not a prolific goalscorer, but he has the knack of scoring big goals and provide impeccable work ethic on the pitch.

More from Bayern Strikes

The former PSG forward is likely to play Ivan Perisic‘s role for Flick this season. He will not start every game, but the congested schedule will men that Choupo-Moting will allow proper rotation of wide players and Lewandowski. Considering it is a free transfer, it will serve Die Roten’s short term objectives and leave them the scope of going for a young winger next summer.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports in Germany and RMC are reporting that Die Roten are also negotiating with Marseille for Bouna Sarr. The 28-year-old defender will provide cover in the right-back position. Benjamin Pavard has been consistently playing in the right-back position, but he prefers playing in central defense. Sarr’s arrival will also allow Joshua Kimmich to play consistently in the midfield.

A move for Sarr is coming off the back of Die Roten’s defeat in the race for Ajax defender Sergino Dest. The young US international joined Barcelona this week. Norwich defender Max Aarons was linked with a move to Bavaria, but nothing has materialized on that front.

Roca is a shrewd signing for the German Champions and could be an important player in Bavaria for a long time. Meanwhile, Sarr and Choupo-Moting are likely to be short-term deals. It looks like a haphazard approach to the window, but this year’s situation is different due to the pandemic. Die Roten would have done well if they get these two deals over the line since they will provide much-needed depth in crucial positions.
