Bayern Munich agree fee with Leeds United for Mickael Cuisance
FC Bayern Munich reportedly accepts a bid from Leeds United for Mickael Cuisance.
Time is running out for FC Bayern Munich as they look to bolster their squad. However, departures continue to happen at the club. Mickael Cuisance is the latest player that is close to parting ways with the German Champions.
According to The Athletic (subscription needed), Leeds United have agreed to a fee with FC Bayern Munich for Cuisance. The German Champions are set to pocket £20 million, pocketing a healthy profit on the transfer fee. The English media outlet also insists that Die Roten will have a buyback clause in this deal.
Cuisance might complete the rest of the formalities of the transfer later this week. This transfer will come out as a surprise as Die Roten and Cuisance were eager to continue together this season. The French midfielder has always insisted that he is ready to fulfill his potential in Bavaria.
Die Roten had signed Cuisance from Borussia Monchengladbach last summer after Renato Sanches moved permanently to Lille. Similar to Sanches, Cuisance struggled to get regular playing time in Bavaria due to the plethora of options in the center of the park. The Frenchman had to get minutes under his belt in the reserves to maintain fitness.

After lockdown, Cuisance did manage to feature in the Bundesliga for Rekordmeister. He managed to score his first goal for the club against Wolfsburg at the end of the league campaign. His performances were rusty, but there were flashes of brilliance. It was expected that he would get more opportunities this season after the departure of Thiago Alcantara this summer.
It is a shame that Cuisance couldn’t get a sustained run in the team to show his best. However, it is understandable from Hansi Flick to stick with the best XI in the second half of the season as they chased three trophies. Eventually, the club won the treble, so his decisions paid off. Having said that, Die Roten needs to introspect on how to integrate young talent without compromising the player’s development and the club’s ambitions.
With the departure of Cuisance, Die Roten may find themselves light in the center of the park. Javi Martinez is also expected to leave the club before the end of the window as he enters the final year of the contract. The German Champions were linked with midfielders during the transfer window, but those murmurs have gone quiet in the last couple of weeks.
Adrian Fein should be getting more chances if Rekordmeister doesn’t make additions to the midfield department. The German midfielder impressed at Hamburg last season. Fein played with reserves last weekend, but he is training with the first team, so we can expect him to soon play with the senior team.
