Tactically astute in big games for Bayern Munich

Kovac had a fairly decent record in big games during the 2018/19 season, with the best coming against Borussia Dortmund at Allianz Arena. However, Kovac often had a little bit conservative approach during these games, which is not exactly a poor approach, but it often irked Bayern fans as they love seeing their team play on the front foot against big teams.

Flick had a big game instantly after getting the role as Dortmund were visiting Allianz Arena in November. The defending champions played some outstanding football to blow their rivals away. However, this performance came off the back of a new manager bounce, so the test was to sustain high-intensity football in other big games.

The intensity was there against Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen in Hinrunde, but Die Roten suffered narrow defeats. Flick had the task of optimizing the approach of his team, a perfect mix of dominating the opponent without making them vulnerable against teams on the break.

The German manager might have worked on it during winter break, as Bayern delivered matured performances against big teams in Hinrunde. The recent wins against Dortmund, Gladbach, and Leverkusen showed that the team under Flick knows to regulate the intensity of the game. They can put the opponent in a state of bother by playing some slick football but also boasted the ability to effortlessly see out the game. Flick has been tactically clever to implement an attractive as well as an effective style of football at Bayern.
