Calculated gambles were taken by Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich

A great manager has a knack of taking calculated risks or gambles that can enhance the performances of the team. Flick has shown the ability to do this at Bayern this season. Alphonso Davies is one of the biggest success stories under Flick. Moving him in the left-back position was a calculated risk that has helped Die Roten to unearth a gem.

To be fair, Niko Kovac deserves credit to begin the project left-back for Davies. However, Flick decided to persist with Davies for a long period. He could have taken the safer route by moving Kimmich in the right-back position, allowing Benjamin Pavard to play in central defense and Alaba in the left-back role. The faith in Davies shows Flick is brave enough to make big decisions that can alter the fortunes of the first team.

More from Bayern Strikes

Joshua Zirkzee is another fine example of Flick’s calculated gamble in the first team. The German manager was not scared to throw Zirkzee in tough situations against Freiburg and Wolfsburg in December. The Dutch striker responded with two important goals that helped the team to start a long winning run. He has become a regular member of the matchday squad and occasionally fills in for Lewandowski.

Flick is brave enough to rely on young players and stick with some unorthodox decisions in the first-team squad. As it is well documented that fortunes favour the brave. Such calculated gambles or risk has helped Die Roten to achieve important results and improve their playing dynamics on the pitch.
