Ajax defender Sergino Dest wants to join Bayern Munich in summer.
Bayern Munich has once again stamped their authority in Germany by retaining the Bundesliga this season. The German club will be looking to get even better next season despite enjoying a flawless run under Hansi Flick since December. Die Roten will be in the transfer market to improve their squad for next season.
Along with improving the attacking department, Rekordmeister is reportedly eager to add a right-back to the squad. Flick wanted to add depth in the right-back position during the January window. The club eventually signed Alvaro Odriozola from Real Madrid on a six-month loan deal.
However, the Spaniard couldn’t impress Flick and hardly got playing time during his time in Bavaria. The German manager will be eager to address the position again in summer. Ajax’s Sergino Dest has been touted as the candidate for this position since January, as Die Roten reportedly had a bid rejected in the winter transfer window.
The latest update from Germany about Dest looks promising for Die Roten. According to Sky Sports, Dest prefers a move to Bavaria over other top clubs in Europe. This report insists that Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are other clubs that are interested in signing Dest during the summer transfer window.

Dest has regularly featured in Ajax’s first team this season. The USA international can operate as a wingback and right back, having perfect offensive and defensive abilities to be a dangerous operator on the right flank. Sky insists that Ajax currently wants a bid in the region of €20-30 million to part ways with Dest.
Benjamin Pavard has done fine as a right-back this season after Joshua Kimmich permanently moved to central midfield. The Frenchman has been a consistent performer for Die Roten throughout the campaign, but he still lacks that cutting edge in the final third, which Alphonso Davies provides on the left-flank.
Moreover, Pavard had recently insisted that he would prefer to play in central defense. During his time at VfB Stuttgart, the 24-year-old defender made his name in the Bundesliga by delivering stellar performances in central defense. Dest’s arrival will allow him to move back in defense since there are lingering doubts over the future of Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez.
Dest will be a smart signing for Die Roten in summer. It is likely to complete the overhaul of the defense. Moreover, he will be a better signing financially compared to someone like Achraf Hakimi, who has been heavily linked with a move to Bavaria. Hakimi is a better player right now, but the pandemic may force Die Roten to look at cheaper alternatives.
