Bayern Munich should try to sign Hakimi from Real Madrid in summer.

With Bundesliga and DFB Pokal in sight, Bayern Munich is likely to soon start adding players to the squad, provided there is more clarity about the summer transfer window. Right-back is a priority position for Die Roten as the club is linked with a move for Achraf Hakimi.

According to Marca, Bayern Munich is attentively keeping an eye on the developments regarding the future of Hakimi. The Moroccon full-back is set to return to Real Madrid in summer after enjoying a fruitful two-year loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.

Die Roten need a right-back in summer since Joshua Kimmich has permanently moved in the midfield this season. Benjamin Pavard has been performing well in this position, but the Frenchman prefers playing in central defense, his primary position. The club tried to add depth in this position by signing Alvaro Odriozola from Real Madrid in January. It highly unlikely that the Spaniard stays at the club beyond the end of this season.

Hakimi is the ideal candidate to fill the role which has been vacated by Kimmich this season. Pavard is a solid right-back, but he doesn’t provide the attacking impetus which Kimmich used to provide in the last couple of seasons. Hakimi’s numbers at Dortmund in the last two years suggest that he can provide more attacking intensity from the right flank for Die Roten.

More from Bayern Strikes

The Moroccon international has been one of the most prolific right-backs in Europe this season. He has contributed to 10 assists and five goals in the Bundesliga itself while scoring four in the Champions League. Hakimi is rapid and clever on the ball, which makes him suitable for almost every top team in Europe. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)

In the past few games, Die Roten has often switched to back three, with Pavard becoming the third center-back. In such situations, Hakimi can become a handy option as a wingback option. With Alphonso Davies on the left and Hakimi on the right, Rekordmeister will become a very difficult team to contain.

Hakimi still needs to polish the defensive side of his game as opposition often exploits the space behind him when he goes forward. Flick has been good at improving players, including veterans such as Jerome Boateng, who looked defensively all over the place in the past couple of seasons. It is a big opportunity for Die Roten to complete the defensive overhaul by getting Hakimi in summer.

The financial aspect of this deal may be the biggest stumbling block for Die Roten. Real Madrid have Dani Carvajal at their disposal, and Odriozola returns in summer. Hakimi may find it difficult to play regularly as he did at Dortmund, which may force Madrid’s hand to listen to offers. However, they would only listen to big offers for the young full-back.

Die Roten is likely to sign Leroy Sane as reports continue to emerge in Germany that the German winger is eager to move to Bavaria. Since Sane is entering the final year of contract at Man City, so Sane may join a much lower fee. This may allow Bayern to focus on signing right-back. Despite a challenging transfer window ahead, Die Roten should not hesitate to sign Hakimi, who can be their right-back for the next ten years.
