Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck
Beckenbauer took all the plaudits during his time at the club, but Die Roten had another quality defender in the team at the same time. Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck also managed to play out his entire career in Bavaria for Bayern Munich.
Schwarzenbeck complemented Beckenbauer in the central defense. While Der Kaiser was a complete defender, but Schwarzenbeck also helped in mopping at the back when the former went on adventurous runs ahead. The former German defender was a ferocious defender, lunging into accurate tackles to win the ball.

In terms of honours, Schwarzenbeck is one of the most successful players in the club’s history. Along with eight domestic titles, he was also an important part of the side that won three European Cups during the 1970s. Similar to Beckenbauer, Schwarzenbeck also featured in the West Germany squad that won Euros and World Cup in the 1970s.
Schwarzenbeck managed to make 547 appearances for Rekordmeister in a 15-year long career at the club. The German defender was not as prolific as Der Kaiser in the final third, managing 39 goal contributions throughout his career. Schwarzenbeck is not regularly admired as Beckenbauer, but that doesn’t mean that his contribution to the club’s history was lesser than his counterpart. (Stats Courtesy: Transfermarkt)
