Jerome Boateng

After enduring a rough time in England with Manchester City, Jerome Boateng moved to Bayern Munich in 2012. The German defender was one of the best young center-back prospects at that time, so Die Roten got themselves a bargain deal.

Boateng took very little time to settle in as he had the experience of playing in the Bundesliga. He slotted in central defense under Jupp Heynckes and formed a solid partnership with Dante. The former German international was strong at winning duels against all types of forwards. His clever positioning helped him to make vital interceptions.

In the treble season, Boateng was a rock at the back, helping the team to come away from Camp Nou with clean sheets. Even after Jupp Heynckes’ departure, Boateng continued to improve. His ball-playing abilities were put to use under Pep Guardiola. Under the Spaniard’s guidance, Boateng became one of the best central defenders in the World.

Boateng has struggled in the past couple of seasons, but he has been a phenomenal defender for the club’s longest Bundesliga winning streak. His recent resurgence under Hansi Flick means that he could be having an extended last hurrah in Bavaria. By winning every possible competition with Bayern in 310 appearances, Boateng will go down as one of the best players in the club’s history. (Stats Courtesy- Transfermarkt)
