Number ten role

Bayern currently has Thomas Muller and Philippe Coutinho as the primary attacking midfielders in the squad. The Brazilian has endured a frustrating debut season in Bavaria. Die Roten is unlikely to take up the option of signing Coutinho permanently from Barcelona.

On the other hand, Muller has flourished under Flick. The German is enjoying his best campaign since Pep Guardiola‘s departure in 2016. Muller currently has ten goals and 17 assists to his name this season. He has been leading the press in the final third, and his clever movement allows other forwards to flourish. Muller’s future looked away from the club under Kovac. However, things have changed entirely under Flick, and he was handed a two-year contract extension three weeks ago. The German will have a big role to play for Rekordmeister next season as he chases another CL title with the club.

Apart from Muller, Goretzka can also play in this role next season. The 25-year-old midfielder becomes a goal threat when deployed in the number ten role. He played in this role consistently during his debut season.

Die Roten are also heavily linked with a move for Kai Havertz, who will also occupy this position. The young German midfielder has been one of the best performers in his position across Europe in the past couple of seasons. Havertz also reportedly wants to move to Bavaria whenever the transfer window opens in summer.

Considering all scenarios going forward, the midfield department could shape up this way if transfers go as planned for Die Roten.

Midfield- Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Muller, Thiago Alcantara, Leon Goretzka, Mickael Cuisance, Adrian Fein, Kai Havertz.
