Thomas Muller has squashed speculation around his future by signing a new deal at Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

The good news keeps coming for Bayern Munich fans. After appointing Hansi Flick as a permanent manager, Die Roten has secured the future of one of the stars in the squad. The defending champions announced on Tuesday that Thomas Muller had signed a contract extension.

Muller’s contract was set to expire in 2021. The new deal will make sure that the German forward will stay in Bavaria till 2023. This news comes as a relief as there has been growing speculation surrounding Muller’s future at the club.

The German forward has been a pivotal player for Flick, so it is not a surprise that Die Roten sorted out his contract soon after last week’s announcement. Muller still has few years left at the top, and he is now likely to bring curtains to his career in Bavaria after signing this contract.

Speaking to the club’s website, Muller admitted that staying at Bayern was always his preferred option. The German forward is determined to give his everything on and off the pitch after the club showed faith in him by handing a new deal.

"“For me, the number one priority was to extend at FC Bayern – and the club felt the same way.”“This club is not just any old employer for me. It’s my passion. I’m happy that I’ll be here for two extra years, and I’ll give everything on and off the pitch.”"

Muller struggled to get playing time under Niko Kovac at the start of the season. There were suggestions in German media that he may look for a transfer away from the club in the winter window. Muller also insisted that he will have to look at other solutions if his situation doesn’t improve.

Kovac’s departure in November created an opening for Muller to regain a place in the starting XI. The German forward repaid Flick’s faith in him by delivering consistent performances. With regular playing time, Muller became a more influential player in the final third with every passing game, stretching defenses with clever runs and linking up perfectly with other forwards.

Muller currently has 10 goals and 17 assists to his name across all competitions. He is currently enjoying his best campaign since Pep Guardiola‘s departure in 2015/16. The new contract extension will mean that Flick has promised Muller to get a decent amount of playing time even if the club ends up signing Kai Havertz. The young German midfielder will have a perfect role model to work with if he makes the switch. Muller will go down as one of best players to play for Die Roten with brilliant attacking numbers by the time he completes his 15th season in Bavaria at the end of 2022/23 campaign/
