Leroy Sane’s agent provides an update on the possible move to Bayern Munich in summer.
Bayern Munich are looking to improve the attacking department of the squad in summer. Along with many other forwards, Manchester City winger Leroy Sane is the name that keeps getting linked with Die Roten.
The German club tried hard to sign Sane last summer, but couldn’t finalise a deal. As soon as things started to look like moving in the right direction for the transfer to be completed, Sane suffered a serious knee injury that kept him out of action for more than six months.
Die Roten decided to abandon their pursuit of Sane. The club decided to bring in Ivan Perisic and Philipe Coutinho on one-year loan deals from Inter Milan and Barcelona, respectively. However, Sane still remains on Rekordmeister’s radar and the player also wants to move to Germany.
The reports in Germany had suggested that Sane remains interested in moving to Bavaria. The move looked doubtful after Sane changed his agent. Speaking to SportBild, Damir Smoljan- director of the agency representing Sane, confirmed that a move to Bayern is the only club in Germany Sane wants to join.
"“The basic interest of FC Bayern is no secret.”“FC Bayern is the only club in Germany that Leroy can imagine as the next step in his career. There he sees the prerequisites for achieving his big goal of winning the Champions League.”"

Smoljan also confirmed that other top clubs have also shown interest in former Schalke winger. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic is likely to have a big impact on the transfer market and player fees. Despite this impact, Man City will be open to listening offers for Sane due to his contract situation. The German winger will enter in the final year of his contract with the defending Premier League Champions.
Hansi Flick’s appointment had cast a shadow over a potential deal to bring Sane to Bavaria. The German manager reportedly wants the club to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. However, the recent reports in Germany hint that Flick is open to working with Sane at the club.
Sane would have commanded a nine-figure fee last summer, but Die Roten will be confident about getting him for a much lesser fee due to his contract situation. Pep Guardiola, Man City manager, had already confirmed in summer that talks between Sane and the English club over a new contract have stalled.
The German international has completely recovered from the knee injury he suffered in August. The suspension of football due to the pandemic has delayed his return to first-team action. Sane is one of the three German players heavily linked with Die Roten. It will be interesting to see which German player(s) the club ends up signing in a tricky window.
