Bayern Munich is reportedly ready to secure the long term future of Thiago Alcantara.

Bayern Munich seems to have started preparing for next season. The German club decided to clear the talk surrounding the next manager, so they made an early announcement about Hansi Flick’s appointment last week. Flick signed a new two-year contract as first-team manager after enjoying success as interim manager.

Rekordmeister is looking to tie down star players that have contracts expiring at the end of next season. On Tuesday, they announced first renewal as Thomas Muller committed his future to the club by signing a two-year extension.

After Muller, Die Roten will turn to other star players. According to Kicker (via Spox), Bayern is close to agreeing to a new contract with Thiago Alcantara. The German outlet insists that only a few details are left to be sorted regarding a new contract.

Thiago has been one of many players that have drastically improved under Flick. The Spaniard was finding himself on the bench at the end of Hinrunde, and German reports were hinting that he may leave the club in summer.

More from Bayern Strikes

However, the Spanish midfielder bounced back emphatically after the winter break. Thiago formed a very good partnership with Joshua Kimmich in midfield. The Spaniard got the opportunity to consistently play as a dynamic midfielder or a number eight as Kimmich took up the holding midfield position.

Thiago linked up midfield and attack with his pin-point passes and mazy dribbles. The former Barcelona midfielder has also lately become a goal threat, scoring three league goals in Ruckrunde. After a dip in form, Thiago is currently playing his best football after a long time, free from injury, and running the show in midfield for Rekordmeister.

The Spaniard is still 28 and has two-three years left in his prime, so it is a no brainer for the club to extend his contract. A three-year extension to the current contract will be ideal for Die Roten. The club will get the best out of Thiago. If they decide to cash in at some point in the next couple of seasons, then this new deal will help them to be in a stronger position on the negotiation table.

The new contract will also benefit Thiago. He was heavily linked with a move back to Spain in 2018 but ended up staying. Since then, he has admitted that he feels completely settled in Bavaria and wants to win many more trophies with the club. If the contract negotiations are so advanced, then there could be an announcement in the next few days as players started training this week.
