Philippe Coutinho

As soon as Leroy Sane suffered a serious injury against Liverpool in August, Bayern had to alter their transfer plans. The club moved swiftly to sign Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic on one-year loan deals from Barcelona and Inter Milan, respectively.

Recent reports suggest that Perisic is likely to stay beyond this season as his transfer fee is much cheaper than Coutinho. The Brazilian forward has not done enough to warrant a fee excess of €100 million.

More from Bayern Strikes

Coutinho started slowly at Bayern as he missed pre-season preparations due to Copa America. After the initial adaption period, the former Liverpool forward started showing glimpses of his brilliance. He performed well under Kovac but found himself on the bench under Flick. His form dipped with less playing time as Muller became the first-choice number ten option.

The Brazilian still has decent stats, but he has failed to live up to the standards that he has shown in the past. His performances in big games have been disappointing. It doesn’t make sense for Die Roten to cough up €100 million fee for a player who will be 28 next season and has struggled to perform in the past couple of years.
