Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick urges Jann-Fiete Arp to be patient for chances in the first team.

Hansi Flick has done a great job in managing the Bayern Munich squad since taking over from Niko Kovac in November. The German manager has boosted the confidence of fringe players by praising them publicly and giving them playing time whenever it was possible.

The success of Joshua Zirkzee has also been a great story under Flick. He took a brave call and relied on a teenager in crunch situations when Die Roten were chasing victories. Many first-team players have praised his management style on every occasion they get.

Jann-Fiete Arp is the only first-team player who has not enjoyed a considerable amount of playing time under Flick. The German forward has way below in the pecking order in the attacking department. Zirkzee has also gone past him after making a decisive impact in the handful of opportunities he has got in the Bundesliga.

Speaking to media on Friday (via Bild), Flick insisted that Arp will continue to play with the U-23 squad. The German manager also urged him to continue working hard as he will get opportunities with the first team in the future.

"“I spoke to Fiete for a long time. He is with the U23, it does well there. His way is currently there! There he can collect game practice, has given a template, scored a goal. I’m happy for him, because he’s a fine boy.”“Our focus is that Fiete will play with us at some point. But you also have to say that there is still a long way to go! We support him wherever possible.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Fiete joined Die Roten from Hamburg last summer. The German forward travelled with the first team for the pre-season tour and impressed Niko Kovac in friendly games. Arp decided against going on a season-long loan as he wanted to learn from the best players at Bayern Munich.

However, things turned sour for Arp at the start of the season. He travelled with the squad for initial few league games, but couldn’t make his first-team debut. The young forward was then sidelined for a long time due to serious injury. He returned to action after a month and injured himself again in training.

During the winter break, Arp started training on the pitch, but he didn’t feature in the matchday squads under Flick. He has been playing the reserves squad. In the current scenario, I don’t think Arp will play for the first team this season, unless there is a huge injury crisis in the squad.

Arp should look for a season-long loan to a Bundesliga club in summer. He has been struggling for form in the past 18 months, so he must get minutes under his belt. Serge Gnabry also went through this process before becoming an important part of the squad. Adrian Fein is also getting success through that path, so Arp should take a brave call in summer and look for a solid loan move.
