Bayern Munich has reportedly identified Barcelona full-back Nelson Semedo as a summer transfer target.

The need for transfers has become even more intense after Bayern Munich lost against FC Nurnberg in a club-friendly on Saturday. Die Roten has always insisted that it will be a quiet window, and their majority of business is likely to be conducted in summer.

Despite spending a lot of money on defenders last summer, Hansi Flick insisted that Bayern should look to strengthen their defense in January. However, this time the area of concern is not the central defense. The club needs to add a right-back to the squad, helping Joshua Kimmich to permanently move to midfield.

Bayern have been linked with a couple of full-backs in the past few weeks. Joao Cancelo and Benjamin Henrichs were tipped to be transfer targets for the winter window, but there have no concrete talks for Cancelo while Henrichs prefers a move to RB Leipzig. A new name has now crept in the list of right-backs being linked with a move to Bavaria.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich is planning a summer move for Barcelona full-back Nelson Semedo. The Portuguese full-back was subject to interest from various top clubs last summer, but Barcelona was in no mood to sanction his transfer. However, this report insists that the Spanish club could be open to a transfer this summer.

More from Bayern Strikes

Semedo is an attacking full-back that can create chances in the final third with his accurate passing. His dribbling also helps in stretching the defense. The Portugal international has struggled this season and lost the place in the starting XI to Sergi Roberto. A change of scenery may help him to get back to his best.

Bayern should be keeping a close eye on Semedo. The Portuguese full-back is about to enter the prime years of his career, so signing him will be a no brainer. He will provide the attacking impetus, which the team lacks on the right flank when Benjamin Pavard is deployed in the right-back position.

Die Roten is unlikely to spend a huge fee on a right-back, so this move will also depend on Barcelona’s demands. Semedo’s contract at the Spanish club is set to expire in 2022, and there is a €100 million release clause (via Squawka) in his contract.

There is no chance any club will pay his release clause. If Barca is ready to listen to offers in the region of €30 million, then Bayern should be all over it. Semedo will fit into the right-back profile that Bayern need right now, but they need to make sure he is a viable option for them in terms of finance, as there are more pressing areas of concern in the squad.
