Bayern Munich monitoring the situation of RB Leipzig defender
Bayern Munich is reportedly keeping a close eye on RB Leipzig defender Lukas Klostermann.
The winter transfer window is now officially open. Bayern Munich has repeatedly insisted that they are unlikely to make any addition in January. However, they will monitor the situation in the market to see if a prime transfer target becomes available.
Die Roten have been heavily linked with right-backs in the winter window. Hansi Flick also confirmed that he would like the club to look for a right-back to make sure that Joshua Kimmich plays regularly in midfield. The latest report from Germany suggests that Bayern may look for a player for this position in the Bundesliga.
According to SportBild, Bayern is closely monitoring the situation of Lukas Klostermann at RB Leipzig. The German full-back’s contract with Leipzig is set to expire in 2021. Leipzig has failed to agree to terms for a new deal with the player until now.
This report suggests that Klostermann will be a transfer target for summer as Leipzig is unlikely to part ways with him in January. SportBild also insists that Die Roten may look for a temporary solution for the right-back position in the winter market and later make a move for Klostermann in January.

Klostermann has been a regular member of Leipzig’s strongest starting XI in the past few seasons. The tall full-back is defensively solid and remains a constant threat in the final third. He also has a knack of scoring goals as he scored five goals last season and already has two to his name this year.
After establishing himself as an important player for Leipzig, Klostermann has been called up for the national team by Joachim Low. The 23-year-old defender made eight appearances for Germany in 2019. Apart from full-back position, Klostermann can also play in central defense and left-back positions.
If Klostermann doesn’t extend his contract at Leipzig, then they will have no other option than listen to offers for him next summer. It will be a shrewd transfer from Bayern as Klostermann is a fine full-back, and he will get better during the prime years of his career.
Apart from Klostermann, Bayern has also been linked with Benjamin Henrichs and Joao Cancelo. Henrichs reportedly wants to work with Julian Nagelsmann at Leipzig. He will likely become Klostermann’s replacement if he doesn’t agree to a new deal before the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Bayern is yet to open talks with Manchester City for Cancelo. These links and comments from Flick surely suggest that it is just a matter of time before a new right-back arrives in Bavaria.
