Hasan Salihamidzic: Alphonso Davies will become important player for Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic is confident that Alphonso Davies will be an important player for the club.
November was testing month for Bayern Munich. They were struggling on the pitch before the departure of Niko Kovac. However, things have been on an upward trajectory under Hansi Flick in the last few weeks.
Despite the defeat against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, the performances of Bayern have improved under Flick. Amidst these good performances, Alphonso Davies has been one of the standout players for Bayern.
Davies have been deployed in a different role during these games. The 19-year-old winger has been playing in the left-back role due to serious injuries to Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez. Davies adapted to this position with ease as he has shown great composure while defending and attacking.
Hasan Salihamidzic lauded Davies’ progress this season during an interview with TZ. The club’s sporting director believes that Davies will go on to become a key player for Bayern Munich. He also insisted that Davies is one of the best talents in his age group.
"“We signed Alphonso Davies a year ago because we see him as one of the greatest talents in his class. We’re delighted that this is now being confirmed with every game he plays.”“Alphonso can become a very important player of FC Bayern. We’ve now got to support and push him, but also protect him.”"

Davies recently spoke about the process of transitioning from a left-winger to left-back position. The 19-year-old winger is using the blistering pace to his benefit while defending against wingers. He still needs to work on his end product, but that is expected to improve with more minutes under his belt.
The Canadian winger had a tough game against Bayer Leverkusen, but it is all part of his development process. Bayern needs to carefully manage his situation, giving him adequate game time to improve his game. He is currently playing in the left-back role due to the injury crisis. It will be interesting to see how regularly he plays when all defenders are available for selection.
Bayern have more promising young players in the first team and reserves squad. Mickael Cuisance arrived from Borussia Monchengladbach in summer, but yet to get a good run in the first team. Salihamidzic assured last week that Cuisance in on the right track to get his opportunity. He is confident that the French midfielder will eventually play a key role at the club.
Lukas Mai has also been knocking on the door for a long time. The German defender made his debut two years ago, but yet to get a good run in the first team. Bayern signed some top talent for the reserves team last summer, so more young players may start knocking on the doors of the first team.
