Bayern Munich continue with Hansi Flick as first-team head coach
Bayern Munich announce that Hansi Flick will continue to be the head coach of the first team for the time being.
A new era is set to begin this weekend as Bayern Munich bid farewell to Uli Hoeness on Friday. The German leaves the administration of the club after 40 years of service. Herbert Hainer is set to replace Hoeness in the presidential role at Bayern.
Bayern will make more changes in the boardroom next year. Hasan Salihamidzic will be promoted to board at the end of this season. Oliver Kahn will take up an administerial role at Die Roten early in January. Kahn is expected to eventually replace Karl-Heinz Rummenigge after two years.
The German champions will be looking for a new manager next summer. Niko Kovac left the club a fortnight ago due to the team’s poor performances in October. Hansi Flick was handed the temporary charge of the team for the games against Olympiakos and Borussia Dortmund.
It is looking likely that Flick will have to be on the touchline longer than he expected. During the felicitation event of Hoeness, Rummenigge also made a major announcement (via FC Bayern) regarding the head coach of the team.
"“Last Saturday, Uli Hoeneß, Hasan Salihamidzic and I publicly announced that Hansi Flick is our head coach until further notice.”“And since we don’t want to be asked every Saturday whether Hansi will be our head coach for the next match, I’ll tell you, dear members: ‘until further notice’ means Hansi Flick will bear responsibility in terms of sport at least until Christmas, and potentially beyond.”"

Flick reportedly held talks with the club chiefs this week. The two wins last week strengthened his case for continuing in this role. The players have responded well during his training sessions as they delivered a brilliant performance against Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern Munich have been linked with various top managers in the two weeks. The top candidates for this role are likely to become available in summer. Hence, Die Roten needed an interim manager to see out this season. The club chiefs will get time to assess the situation again during the winter break if things don’t go according to plan for Flick.
Arsene Wenger reportedly emerged as the top candidate for the interim position. However, the German club ruled out him out of the running despite the talks being held between the two parties. As per numerous reports across Europe, Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag is the prime candidate for this role. The Dutchman is open to joining Bayern in the future, but he has ruled out leaving Ajax midway through this season.
Flick passed a tricky test against Dortmund with flying colours. His tactical acumen will be challenged when Die Roten comes up against tough teams in the Champions League during the second half of the season. Those games will not be his immediate concern right now, as Bayern look to regain the top spot in the Bundesliga.
