Hasan Salihamidzic confirms that Bayern Munich will not sanction Thomas Muller’s departure in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Bayern Munich had to deal with constant speculation surrounding Thomas Muller’s future in the past few weeks. The German forward is heavily linked with a move away from the club in January due to lack of gametime under Niko Kovac.

This week fresh reports emerged in Germany, hinting that Manchester United is interested in signing Muller in the upcoming winter transfer window. The English club has previously tried to sign Muller in 2015, but Bayern were not ready to listen to any offers.

The German forward is determined to play regularly and admits that he may have to look for a solution if his situation in Bavaria doesn’t improve. Bayern Munich meanwhile dismissed these reports and insisted that Muller is not going anywhere in January.

Hasan Salihamidzic made it clear on Saturday that Bayern is not looking to sell players. Speaking to Sky Sports (via Goal), Salihamidzic insisted that Philippe Coutinho and Thomas Muller can play together.

"“That’s a story you want to write. We have two players out for months and you are trying to tell us to sell a player. There’s no reason for doing this.”“Coutinho developed on the left side at Liverpool, he can play in different positions. Of course, he likes to play in the middle. Both players are top players.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Kovac was uncertain about playing Muller and Coutinho together at the start of this season. However, in the last two games, the Croatian has tried this combination together. The opponents were not strong, but Muller and Coutinho effectively complemented each other.

Muller’s performances in these two games have been better. The German has been busy in the final third, and his movement helped in creating space for other forwards. However, his poor form in front of goal continues. He has managed to score only one goal across all competitions this season.

Bayern Munich will need every player of the squad as the games start piling up in the second half of the season. Muller will get more than decent playing time, so it will be a huge surprise if he forces a move away from club midway through the season. The summer window will be the ideal time for all parties to sit down and sort out the long term future of the player.

Kovac meanwhile was satisfied with his team’s performance against Union Berlin but wants his players to be more clinical in the upcoming games. The Bundesliga champions had to work hard to get all three points against Berlin. Die Roten climbed to the top spot in the table after this win, but Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg have one game in hand. Bayern will now shift their attention to DFB Pokal as they travel to Bochum on Tuesday.
