Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists that Thomas Muller remains an integral part of plans at the club.

There has been intense speculation surrounding Thomas Muller’s future at Bayern Munich this week. The German forward is frustrated with limited gametime under Niko Kovac this season. He is reportedly contemplating a move away from the club in the next transfer window.

After reports emerged in Germany saying that Muller wants a transfer away from the club, the German forward admitted that he is frustrated his situation at the club. Muller believes that he is too ambitious to be regularly sitting on the bench.

Joshua Kimmich cannot imagine Bayern without Muller but understands his recent frustrations. The club chiefs didn’t respond to these reports till Saturday. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge finally spoke about this issue this weekend.

Speaking to Welt am Sonntag (via TZ), Rummenigge insisted that Muller is a key player for Bayern Munich. The club’s CEO also confirmed that the relationship between Kovac and Muller is completely fine. He is impressed with the way Muller has responded to demotion on the bench in the last few games.

"“The relationship between Thomas and Bayern is totally intact and he will remain an important part of our club. Niko and Thomas spoke last Sunday, his statement was not happy, I think Thomas is not resentful, and of course, he’s not an emergency nail.”“If Thomas sat contentedly on the bench, he would be in the wrong club. He still has to deal with the situation seriously, he does that exemplary.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Muller started the season in the starting lineup, but the arrival of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona late in the summer changed the situation for him. Kovac decided to give Coutinho a longer run in the lineup at the expense of Muller from the start of September.

The Brazilian forward made full use of this opportunity and delivered brilliant performances in the number ten role. He is slowly gaining his mojo back, which made him one of the best playmakers in Europe during his time at Liverpool. Muller meanwhile got sporadic minutes here and there, but his promising outing against Hoffenheim may create a selection headache for Kovac.

Muller’s contract at Bayern is set to expire in 2021, so next summer is set to be key for his long term future at the club. His qualities on the pitch are still important, but a regular place in starting eleven might be a far fetched idea right now.

Kovac needs to manage this situation properly as Muller is a fan favorite. The Croatian should rotate his team to give the German forward a decent amount of game time this season. Die Roten can make a much better decision regarding his future next summer. The German club is reportedly looking at Christian Eriksen as a replacement for Muller if he decides to experience a new adventure.
