Report: Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller linked to Manchester United
Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller is reportedly a winter transfer target for Manchester United.
Over the past couple of weeks, there has been intense speculation over the future of Thomas Muller at Bayern Munich. The German forward is reportedly considering his future at the club as he is frustrated with limited game time under Niko Kovac.
Muller also admitted that he is too ambitious to be a bench player at Bayern. The German forward further added that he may look for solutions if his situation doesn’t improve. Bayern meanwhile rubbished these reports and insisted that Muller is not going anywhere.
Kovac had previously admitted that Muller and Coutinho cannot play together but chose to start them together against Olympiakos. Muller did grab an assist but it remains to be seen whether playing regularly with two number tens is tactically feasible for Bayern.
The German forward will turn 31 next season but still has a lot to offer at the top level. If Muller decides to end his illustrious career at Bayern, then there will be no lack of suitors for him. The latest report in Germany suggests that there is interest from England in Muller.

According to SportBild, Manchester United is interested in signing Muller during the winter transfer window. Apart from United, Inter Milan is also showing interest in the German forward. There has been no mention of a possible transfer fee in this report.
This is not the first time that Muller has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. The German forward was subject to interest from Manchester United in 2015. Louis Van Gaal was reportedly desperate to reunite with Muller, but Bayern stood firm and rejected €100 million bid for him.
Bayern will be foolish to sanction a transfer midway through this season. Muller is still an important player for Die Roten, but he cannot be an automatic starter right now. Philippe Coutinho is in good form right now, so he needs to remain patient for his chances. The German club will need every player of the squad as they go deep into the season.
Muller’s future in Bavaria is likely to be resolved next summer instead of the winter transfer market. The German club is interested in Kai Havertz while they have also been heavily linked with Christian Eriksen. If Coutinho performs well throughout this campaign, and Die Roten signs one of Havertz and Eriksen, then Muller’s gametime will further decrease. It will be wise for Muller and club to part ways in this situation.
