Bayern Munich was the perfect move for Lucas Hernandez
Lucas Hernandez admits that Bayern Munich was the perfect club in terms of ambitions to start a new adventure.
Bayern Munich made some key changes to their squad in summer. The German club’s priority was to improve the defense, as Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng struggled last season. The former left Die Roten to join Borussia Dortmund in summer.
Die Roten decided to spend huge money on signing Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard from Atletico Madrid and VfB Stuttgart. Hernandez became club’s new record transfer as he reportedly joined for a fee close to €80 million.
The French defender sealed the move from Atletico in March after a knee injury abruptly ended his season. He missed the complete pre-season for Bayern due to this injury but managed to be completely fit for the first competitive game of the season.
Hernandez is targetting major silverware with Bayern in his debut season. Speaking to France Football (via Bundesliga.com), Hernandez reveals that Bayern was the ideal club in terms of his ambitions. He also added that this summer was the ideal time for him to take up a new adventure.
"“It was the right moment for me to make a change, to try something different – a new city, a new culture, a new country.”“Bayern was perfectly suited to my profile, my mentality, and my ambitions. The club management and players told me I would be joining a family, and it’s true. Bayern are a winning machine, so it was perfect for me. I can really improve here.”"

Bayern tried to sign Hernandez in the winter market, but Atletico had no plans to sanction the sale midway through the season. The Frenchman is eager to not disappoint Die Roten after the amount of effort they put to sign him. He is grateful to the club for persisting with their interest despite suffering a serious injury.
The French World Cup winner has made a steady start to his career at Bayern. Hernandez has mainly featured in central defense, partnering Niklas Sule. However, injuries to David Alaba over the last few weeks have forced Niko Kovac to use him in the left-back position. His long term future at the club remains in center-back position.
Bayern were frustrated with the French Federation for calling him up for the second international break of the season. He missed Die Roten’s last two games due to keen injury. The German club believed that Hernandez is not in the right condition to play for France.
However, France stood adamant and asked Hernandez to report at their training base. He didn’t manage to be fit for the game against Iceland but started against Turkey. Die Roten will be hoping that there is no damage done, and he will be fit for the game against Augsburg on Saturday.
