Karl-Heinz Rummenigge irritated with French Federation for calling Lucas Hernandez despite Bayern Munich insisting that he is struggling with a knee problem.

The international break came at the right time for Bayern Munich as they have four first-team players sidelined due to injuries. Die Roten will hope these players will recover and feature for them after the break.

Lucas Hernandez is one of the four senior players that are currently on the treatment table at Bayern. The French defender suffered a knee injury against SC Paderborn last weekend. Since then, Hernandez has missed the games against Tottenham Hotspurs and Hoffenheim.

Niko Kovac was expecting Hernandez to stay at Sabner Strasse during the next two weeks to complete his recovery. However, Didier Deschamps has called up Hernandez for the upcoming Euro qualifiers and expects the center-back to report at Clarinfontaine this week.

Bayern are furious with this decision from the French football federation. In a press release from the German club, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expressed his frustration with the French national team for calling up Hernandez.

"“I am irritated by the behaviour of the French federation.”“The statement quoted by France coach Didier Deschamps was for Lucas Hernandez to be ready to ‘play with one leg’, which was very surprising to us. Of the four requested French national players, of course, we will send the three healthy players – Kingsley Coman, Corentin Tolisso and Benjamin Pavard.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

The former Atletico Madrid defender has suffered pain in the same knee that was injured earlier this year. Hernandez sealed a move to Die Roten in March but had to undergo surgery to solve this knee issue. He missed Bayern’s pre-season tour but managed to be fit for the first competitive game of the season.

Hernandez is an important player for Bayern. Due to his and David Alaba’s absence on Saturday, Niko Kovac had to shuffle his midfield and defense, compromising the balance of the starting lineup. He moved Joshua Kimmich back in the defense and shifted Benjamin Pavard to the left-back position. The Croatian will be hoping that Hernandez is fit for the game against Augsburg after the international break.

Apart from Hernandez, Leon Goretzka should also be expected to be back in training after the break. The German midfielder has been out of action for more than a month due to a thigh injury. Goretzka suffered this injury while training for Germany in the last international break.

Bayern Munich meanwhile slipped to the third position in the Bundesliga on Sunday after Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach won their respective matches on Sunday. The Bundesliga champions’ winning run of four games was ended by Hoffenheim at Allianz Arena. Die Roten will be looking to regain momentum in a fortnight when they travel to Augsburg.
