Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl refuses to rule out a move to Bayern Munich in the future.

Bayern Munich will make numerous changes to the boardroom in the next 12 months. Uli Hoeness has announced that he is set to step down from his presidential role at the end of this year. Oliver Kahn is set to join the board in 2020 and eventually replace Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 2021.

There has been some speculation over the position of Hasan Salihamidzic at the club. Die Roten appointed Salihamidzic as their Sporting Director in 2017. The former Bayern player has been under scrutiny due to the club’s slow approach towards transfers in the last two years.

His contract is set to expire in 2020. He is yet to receive a new contract offer from Die Roten, so the speculation around his future is likely to get more intense. Borussia Monchengladbach’s Max Eberl has been previously linked for this position at Bayern.

In an interview with Bild (via Transfermarkt) this week, Eberl refused to rule out a move to Bayern in the future. Eberl came through the ranks of Die Roten during his playing days. He admitted that Bayern remains very close to his heart.

"“Bayern is the club that means a lot to me. Everyone here in Gladbach knows that.”“There were some talks, but I didn’t feel like I had to do it now. I cannot answer that and I cannot rule that out.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Bayern had a strange summer transfer window as they struggled to sign their primary transfer targets. Salihamidzic was under scrutiny during this time, but he was satisfied with the way summer panned out for the club. He is also pleased with the squad planning procedure at Bayern.

The club chiefs have also backed him publicly. Rummenigge even compared him to young Uli Hoeness. Amongst the players in the current squad, David Alaba publicly praised Salihamidzic for his work at the club in the past two seasons. Salihamidzic’s future will also depend on the success of the players that were signed during his time.

Leon Goretzka’s transfer turned out to be a masterstroke last season. He also did well to get the deal done for Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard to avoid a bidding war with top European clubs. The success of these two defenders, Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho will strengthen Salihamidzic’s chances of staying at the club.

Next. Four takeaways as Bayern Munich put seven past Spurs. dark

The new members of the board along with Rummenigge may decide on Salihamidzic’s future in January. Eberl could be a contender for this position, but he currently looks content at Monchengladbach. Considering he has been backed by Rummenigge, I think Bayern will stick with Salihamidzic and hand him a new deal.
