Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that Bayern Munich will not pursue Manchester City winger Leroy Sane after the winger suffered a serious injury.

It has been busy few days at Bayern Munich regarding transfers. The Bundesliga champions are looking to improve the squad in the final two weeks of the transfer window.  Earlier this week, Die Roten completed a deal to bring Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.

The Croatian winger joins on a loan deal for one year, but Bayern has the option to make this transfer permanent next summer. After Manchester City winger Leroy Sane suffered a serious injury, Perisic emerged as an option for the German club. Sane was Bayern’s top transfer target this summer.

There were reports in Germany suggesting that Die Roten might still consider signing Sane in the final days of the transfer window. However, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has poured cold water on these reports. Speaking to SportBild, Rummenigge confirmed that club will not sign Sane this summer.

"“No, guys! Everyone knows what a cruciate ligament tear means and what the downtime is.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

SportBild insists that Bayern is likely to revive their interest in Sane next summer. The German winger will require at least six months to completely recover from this injury. There was growing confidence at Bayern before this injury as the German club had reportedly initiated negotiations with Man City.

Sane was also reportedly ready to make this switch and return to Bundesliga. Pep Guardiola confirmed that the contract talks between the winger and Manchester CIty have hit an impasse. The Spanish coach was also open to Sane’s departure if he was not keen on staying in Manchester. Bayern will have to pay less for Sane next summer as his current contract with English club is set to expire in 2021.

Bayern is set to further improve their attacking options by signing Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona. The Brazilian forward reported at Saebener Strasse on Sunday to undergo medical and sign the contract. Die Roten has agreed to an initial one-year loan deal with an option to sign Coutinho permanently next summer.

The Bundesliga champions also bolstered the midfield by signing Mickael Cuisance from Borussia Monchengladbach. Cuisance completed all the details of this transfer this weekend. Die Roten announced earlier today that the French midfielder has signed a five-year contract and set to wear number 11 jersey. This could be the end of Bayern’s business this summer despite being heavily linked with Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic.
