Bayern Munich improves the attacking options by completing the transfer of Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.

The attacking department at Bayern Munich needed reinforcements this summer. Die Roten has been working on a deal to sign Leroy Sane from Manchester City. However, the German winger’s serious injury last week forced the Bundesliga Champions to look at other forwards.

Ivan Perisic emerged as the new candidate for Die Roten’s attack at the end of last week. Bayern moved swiftly and agreed to a deal to sign the Croatian winger. The negotiations were smooth as Perisic was reportedly not in Antonio Conte’s plans at the Italian club.

On Tuesday, Bayern completed the remaining paperwork for the winger and announced his arrival. The Croatia international joins on a one-year loan deal, but Die Roten have the option to make this move permanent next summer. Speaking to Bayern’s official website, Perisic insisted that he is excited about the new adventure and ready to help the club in competing on all fronts.

"“I’m very glad to be back in Germany. FC Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in Europe.”“We want to go on the attack, not only in the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup, but also in the Champions League.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Perisic has been handed shirt number 14 by Die Roten. Hasan Salihamidzic believes that Perisic’s experience in the Bundesliga will allow him to settle quickly in Bavaria. The Croatian winger has previously donned the shirts of Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. Perisic’s former teammate Ivica Olic has also backed the winger to make a positive impact at Bayern.

Perisic can operate on both sides of a striker. He can also play the role of a number nine if needed. The Croatian forward’s high work-rate also allows the manager to deploy him in a wing-back role. Niko Kovac has previously worked with Perisic at National team, so the latter is likely to adapt quickly his new coach’s methods.

This transfer doesn’t align with the recruitment policy Die Roten has been following in the last few years. The club has been signing young players and expecting them to eventually develop into world-class players. However, the loan deal for Perisic makes sense if Bayern is ready to wait for Leroy Sane till next summer.

Bayern Munich should still try to sign one more winger before the end of this transfer window. Another winger will provide them solid depth in the attacking department, which will eventually allow Kovac to rotate properly. The German club also remains keen on improving their midfield options. Kovac will be hoping that the German chiefs manage to sign a dominating holding midfielder before the end of this month.
