Meritan Shabani sealed a transfer from Bayern Munich to Wolverhampton Rovers on Premier League deadline day.

Bayern Munich is set to be busy in the final three weeks of the transfer window. The Bundesliga club is expected to add few players to their thin squad. There could be some departures as the future of Jerome Boateng is still uncertain.

The final day of the transfer window in England saw one Bayern Munich midfielder moving to the Premier League. Meritan Shabani agreed to a three-year contract with Wolverhampton Rovers and underwent his medical on Thursday. He is set to be involved with the U-23 team at Wolves. There has been no mention of the buyback clause in this transfer.

Shabani came through Bayern’s academy and played for all the youth teams. He was a key player for the Bayern Munich II last season as they won promotion to the third division. The German midfielder has also made two appearances for the first team.

More from Bayern Strikes

The 20-year-old midfielder has been previously linked with a move to Ajax. It was unlikely Shabani would have got opportunities in the first team at Bayern. Leon Goretzka, Renato Sanches and Corentin Tolisso were Shabani’s main competition for a place in the starting eleven. Moreover, Thomas Muller is likely to be deployed in the attacking midfield role if all the forwards are fit. It was the right time for Shabani to leave Bavaria as he will now have a good chance of playing senior football at Wolves.

Apart from Shabani, there have been numerous departures in the youth teams at Bayern this summer. Woo-Yeong Jeong was the other top talent that Die Roten sold at the start of the transfer window. The South Korean forward joined Freiburg and Bayern reportedly have inserted a buyback clause in this deal.

Die Roten meanwhile suffered a major setback this week in their pursuit of Manchester City winger Leroy Sane. Pep Guardiola confirmed on Friday that the German forward is set to be on sidelines for six-seven months.

SportBild in Germany suggests that Die Roten is now having doubts about completing this transfer. The Bundesliga champions will have to look at the alternatives for Sane. Ivan Perisic has been heavily linked with a move to Bavaria in the past 24 hours. The reports in Italy are now being confirmed by various media outlets in Germany. Die Roten is reportedly trying to complete a loan deal for the Croatian winger.
