Niko Kovac has quickly silenced the reports linking Bayern Munich to Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey.

The transfer rumors are getting intense as top clubs try to get deals over the line before the start of the new season. Bayern Munich is also looking to make at least two more signings before the deadline day.

A winger has been on the agenda for Die Roten throughout this summer. Leroy Sane has been club’s priority transfer target, but they have reportedly looked at alternatives if the move for German winger fails to materialize.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey is one of the potential alternatives to Sane. Transfermarkt made a huge claim yesterday about Bailey’s transfer to Bayern. This report insisted that Bayern has already agreed to a transfer for the Jamaican winger.

However, Niko Kovac quickly dismissed this report in his press conference last night. Speaking to media (via Goal), the Croatian admitted that he is not responsible for transfers, but this report is completely false.

"“I am not responsible for transfers but I have to say something regarding this.”“If you communicate something like this, there must be undeniable proof. Otherwise, you cannot spread it as news.“I would ask you to check it. It’s not true, it’s not verified. It’s false.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Bailey was heavily linked with Bayern Munich last summer. After an impressive 2017/18 campaign, the Jamaican winger was attracting interest from numerous top clubs. He ended up staying at Leverkusen and endured an underwhelming season last year. Bailey is still 21 and could eventually end up at Bayern in future, but a transfer this summer is looking unlikely.

On the other hand, Die Roten has reportedly made significant progress in their pursuit of Sane. The reports in Germany today suggested that Bayern has made a huge offer for the German winger. However, the club quickly issued a statement denying these claims.

The statement from Bayern is strange as they rarely deny any rumors openly. Niko Kovac also had to apologize for his comments about Sane this week. The transfer window is set to shut down next Thursday, so Die Roten are facing a race against time to get their priority transfer target in the attacking department.

After the developments today, Bayern might have to look for a different winger if negotiations with Man City are not concluded before this weekend. The English champions will not be eager to lose a player of Sane’s caliber in the last few days of the transfer window. It will be interesting to see which player Bayern will turn to if they fail to sign Sane.

Die Roten meanwhile receive positive news on Kingsley Coman’s injury against Tottenham Hotspurs. The French winger is expected to resume training on Friday as Bayern turn their attention to the DFL Supercup clash against Borussia Dortmund.
