Joshua Kimmich has urged Bayern Munich to complete more transfers to achieve the target of winning Champions League next season.
Bayern Munich was expected to make massive splurge in the summer transfer window. The Bundesliga champions managed to sign Lucas Hernandez, Jann-Fiete Arp, and Benjamin Pavard. The deals for these three players were concluded before the end of last season, though. Since then it has been a real struggle for Die Roten in the transfer market.
The club chiefs have been subject to criticism due to lack of activity in the last two months. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness remain confident that the squad will be stronger for next season. Hasan Salihamidzic has not traveled with the squad for the pre-season tour to complete transfer business.
Joshua Kimmich believes that Bayern needs top players to do well in the Champions League next season. Speaking to Sport1, the German defender admitted that his biggest dream is to win European competition with Bayern.
"“Winning the Champions League is my childhood dream. This season I want to attack again in the Champions League because last year what we showed there was not enough.”“We have a lot of high-quality players, but is that enough to go into the season? We currently have 17 outfield players. But if you really want to be successful in the Champions League, maybe we could still need one or another.”"

The Bundesliga champions have been enduring a difficult time in the European competition since winning the trophy in 2013. Pep Guardiola and Jupp Heynckes managed to reach semi-finals during their time in Bavaria. Carlo Ancelotti meanwhile, reached the quarter-final in his solitary season with Bayern. The lowest point in this decade came last season when Die Roten crashed out at the round of 16 stage after an embarrassing performance against Liverpool at Allianz Arena.
Niko Kovac will have to come up with new ideas to tackle top teams in Europe. His future was hanging in balance throughout the season, but a strong end to campaign manage to keep him in the job. Rummenigge also recently insisted that Kovac will be eventually judged by club’s progress in the Champions League.
The Croatian manager would like Bayern to sign a winger and midfielder to go deep in the Champions League next season. Die Roten desperately need a top-class winger due to the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. Kovac has also publicly admitted that Bayern’s need a dominating defensive midfielder.
Manuel Neuer’s agent also recently gave a harsh assessment of the current Bayern Munich squad. He also insisted that Die Roten need more quality additions to compete with top teams in Europe. Bayern will surely make at least one signing, but that signing is likely to be second or third choice in the respective position.
